Homemade Bread and Pizza Crust

For about two years I started making bread. I went through different recipes and always had to adjust quantities when changing the flour. However, the recipe below got to be my go to recipe for bread and pizza crust.

Homemade bread

Ingredients (for one 12″ bread loaf or an 8″bread loaf and a 12″ pizza crust)

  • 5 cups flour (I use the Costco Ultragrain Unbleached flour)
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 TBSP dry yeast
  • 3 TBSP olive oil
  • 1 TSP salt

Directions

  • Put everything in the mixing bowl of an electric mixer and (using the dough hook) mix it for about 4 minutes (add a little more flour if the dough sticks to your fingers)
  • Using your hands turn the dough in a ball (usually I rub some olive oil on my hands before doing this), set it in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel and let it rise for about an hour to an hour and a half
  • Preheat oven to 400 F
  • Shape loaf and place in the greased pan; let it rise for another half hour or so (if you are making pizza you can sprinkle some flour on your pan and shape the dough, no need to let it rise again, just add your toppings and bake the pizza for 15-20 minutes or until you see the edges turning golden brown)
  • Bake at 400 F for about 45 minutes
  • If you prefer a softer crust, you can water your hands and rub the crust when you take it out of the oven then cover with a towel and let it cool; otherwise you can let it cool on a wire rack

Enjoy!
