Can’t believe the summer is almost over and the morning low temperatures are definitely make everything feel like fall. Since our garden tomatoes are taking over all our meals (we eat everything tomato these days – tomato salad, pasta and tomato sauce, tomato juice, tomato and mozzarella, tomato everything) I decided to not let anything go to waste and made my sons favorite soup – tomato soup. I froze half of it in small containers so the kids can have this in a few days or weeks or whenever they crave it; plus it will also save me making a meal for them.
It was my husband’s birthday this weekend so I gave another try to one of the most delicious and popular cakes in Romania – the Diplomat Cake. A combination of fruit and bavarian cream layered with lady fingers soaked in fruit juice. This is definitely a must try!
My grandmother used to make this dish pretty often, especially during lent. As a child I was not too found of it but now I like it and, to my surprise, my kids also enjoy eating cabbage and noodles, especially my three year old daughter.
I love baguettes and french bread but they go stale so quickly. Here is a quick recipe to use basically with any stale bread. I usually prepare everything in the evening, let it soak in the fridge over night and bake it in the morning; My kids love this bread pudding with maple syrup in the morning.
I had this recipe for a few months now and I tried it few times with different jams. My family loves it and this is one of those desserts that you make and can enjoy for the rest of the week with a good cup of coffee. A delicious combination of cake, jam, meringue and walnuts.
Grilled Salmon is one of my favorite dishes of the grill. When seasoning the salmon feel free to play with the spices and fresh herbs. No exact quantities on this recipe as they depend on the size of the fish and your taste buds. If you prefer more herbs, add more herbs; if you like garlic, add more garlic. Be careful with the wine and lemon juice, don’t put too much as you need to wrap the salmon in the aluminum foil without spilling the juices. Usually I serve the grilled salmon with rice and potatoes.
School started, temperatures were in the 60s in Ohio so it definitely feels like fall. Our garden tomatoes reached the point where they are all ripe but definitely more than what we can consume. So, what better use than making some tomato juice.
For about two years I started making bread. I went through different recipes and always had to adjust quantities when changing the flour. However, the recipe below got to be my go to recipe for bread and pizza crust. Continue reading “Homemade Bread and Pizza Crust”
Sour Cherry Jam is one of my favorite and this year I started using an easy recipe that works pretty much with any other fruit (I also tried it with strawberry and it was delicious).
